Here is a great video about the detrimental effects of prolonged sitting:

It helps to explain the reason I spend so much time explaining to patients the need to move more, even if it is just simple walking. As humans, we are quite simply built to move. We are not built to sit on our backsides all day! Recent research has really confirmed the severity of the ill-effects caused by too much sitting, including increased risk of; HEART DISEASE, DIABETES, some forms of CANCER, and even PREMATURE DEATH.
If you are unfortunate enough to be in a job that involves prolonged sitting, you should consider the option of a standing desk. At the very least you should aim to get up and move around as often as possible, preferably every 30 minutes. This will even improve your concentration by improving the blood and oxygen supply to the brain.
Chiropractic is fundamentally concerned with improving function and movement throughout the entire body, in order to enhance overall health. If you increase your exercise levels, you may even be able to elongate the time between preventative check-ups and save yourself some money!
So, my advice? Well as the late, great Bob Marley once said: Get up, Stand up! Oh, and Walk!
